The National Organic Standards Board meeting only happens twice a year. It is the time when standards for organic food are changed. Preservatives and processed ingredients such as carrageenan have been allowed and pesticides/herbicides are drifting into fields. We must stop the contamination of organic food! Come and rally, speak if possible (we are working on details) and be heard!

The comment period will open Wednesday March 16. All of the instructions about submitting written comments and signing up for oral comments will be posted on the NOSB webpage (linked above) that day. Hopefully by mid-morning. I will also post the agenda and the proposals so you have access to that before you comment. There are two opportunities to provide oral comments: a webinar on April 19 and at the face-to-face meeting on April 25 and 26. Comments at the webinar are 4 minutes long and comments at the face to face meeting are 3 minutes long.
The comment period is open for 30 days – from March 16 – April 14
The public meeting that we run (the Pre-NOSB meeting) is a roundtable format. Anyone can speak at any time. We keep a queue and ask individuals to limit their remarks to 3 min and to stay on topic. It is a day long meeting on Sunday, April 24 at the Omni hotel (from 9:30 am to 5 pm) that includes a DC organic policy update, an international update on organic issues world wide, and a session with Miles McEvoy who is the head of the National Organic Program at the USDA. In addition, we will have two discussion topics, yet to be chosen but our agenda should be out soon.
