Voices From Data Center Communities
We are sharing this letter in response to President Trump’s recent comments describing towns that welcome data centers as “smart communities” and telling Americans, “You can’t fight it. You have to go with it.” Meanwhile, communities across the country are experiencing pressure on local water and energy supplies, industrial noise, pollution, loss of farmland and open space, and rising utility costs. We deserve the opportunity to show our nation’s leaders what is happening beyond promises of economic growth. Please add your name to support Americans living on the front lines of rapid data center development.
Why This Matters
- Trillions of dollars are pouring into to America’s AI data center buildout, while a slurry of executive orders are accelerating development and weakening barriers to construction.
- Despite the unprecedented scale and speed of this expansion, there are no enforceable federal standards governing where data centers can be built or how communities must be protected from impacts on water, energy, health, land, and utility costs.
- Federal intervention is increasingly shielding tech companies and developers from environmental oversight, public review, and legal accountability in the name of “national security”, while affected residents are left to bear the risks and fight for justice on their own.
