Iowa Right To Know is hosting a family friendly hands on event! Bob Streit ISU crop scout and agronomist and Jason Foley of Foley's Russian bees will speak to you about the importance of clean seeds and soil as well of the effects of GMOs to the earth and the bee population. Polk County Conservation board will give infomation and tips on Foraging and seed saving. Eat Greater Des Moines will give a tour of the Franklin Community Gardens. Urban chicken farmers.
We will encourage people to write a quick letter our state representatives and our governor asking for change in the labeling laws and to petition against H.R. 4432 safe and accurate food labeling act (this will also be a station.)
After that we will allow people to break off into the stations we have set up, currently we have Polk County conservation board on seed harvesting and foraging from the land, native plant section, bee keeping and honey, seed planting station, seed bomb making station, rain barrels and compost stations, bubble making station, how to can your foods, or make your own seed sprouting jar area, organic popcorn station, yoga and hula hooping areas. Some samples of food while supplies last.
We will have a few of the smaller community organized gardening groups on board as well to gather more volunteers for various ongoing projects.
