Open Letter to Food Manufacturers

Article by Zen Honeycutt, Moms Across America in The Hill

To whom it may concern,

gmooped.jpgYou may be relieved that President Obama caved under industry pressure and signed S 764, the Dark Act, into law. You may think that putting a QR Code, website, telephone number or symbol to “label” some GMOs will be sufficient to handle the GMO issue for your customers.

You would be mistaken.

We are mothers, parents, and consumers of all kinds, who are aware that GMOs could be in your products. We’re resolved to simply not buy any products that could contain GMOs or toxic chemicals. We will read the labels, and if we do not see a clear indication that the ingredients are Non-GMO and certified organic, without toxic chemicals, we will assume it is GMO and contains toxic pesticides/herbicides and won’t buy it.

As much as we possibly can, we will only buy products which are both certified Organic and Non GMO Project Verified. We will ask our friends, neighbors and associates to do the same. There are millions of us.

You must understand by now that we do not want GMOs and toxic pesticides in our food of any kind. We do not want genetically altered sugar, soy, corn, cottonseed oil, gene-edited rice or syn bio vanilla. Otherwise, why would so many of you try to hide them? We reject the concept of patenting life, the practice of  altering DNA and consuming higher amounts of toxic pesticides/herbicides as safe.

While you may think that buying the cheaper GMO ingredients will be more profitable for you, you will see how wrong that is. What would be most profitable is to use organic ingredients without genetically altered foreign proteins and toxic pesticides. What would be most profitable is to be responsible for providing healthy food to the public and gain our trust.

There are millions more consumers every day who are learning about GMOs and you cannot stop that awareness by hiding GMOs in your products. The next generation has been educated about the dangers of GMOs and they will soon be your primary target consumers.

This is about more than feeling full, we want to feel fulfilled that we have fed our families safe food. Pesticides kill and are unsafe to eat. We do not want GMOs, labeled or not.

We ask you to make the switch to certified Organic and Non GMO Project Verified ingredients and provide safe food to the American people.

Sincerely,

I will especially look for products that are both organic and non-GMO verified, since the USDA does not test for GMO presence in organic food, even though it is not supposed to be there.

Now is the time to meet the consumer demand for organic and nonGMO foods.

We never agreed to GMOs. They were substituted into our foods without labeling or our knowledge.

This QR code is more of the same- deception and withholding of information. That is called

    lying by omission.’

Put a clear label on Genetically Engineered foods.

In order to ‘Feed the World,’ we need to grow organic and preserve our precious soils- source of our sustenance and health. 1/3 of our arable soils have been lost in the last 50 years. In 30 years they will be gone.

Growing organic will regenerate our soils and put the climate carbon back in the soil where it belongs.

I reject GMOs. I have been lied to.

Restore public trust by telling the truth.

Real food from real seed is a fundamental human right. I reject the toxic food regime and will not support any effort or buy any food “product” that lacks full disclosure and truthful labels. All power to the people who are taking back their food.
