While labeling legislation has been passed here in CT, there is still more work to do! We'll gather near Riverfest in Hartford, enjoy the company, event, and good food, all in the name of community and knowledge for the sake of our families! After the picnic, please stick around and enjoy the fireworks over the beautiful CT River (fireworks begin at 9 p.m.).

Note from the coordinating group for the previously-planned event:

Thanks to all of you who responded with interest in a July 6 march for GMO labeling. We have had to cancel this event and we want you to know why, and give you some more information regarding that weekend.

    1. After much research and effort, we learned that any march activity where we would be most visible is not legal, and therefore will not be safely possible on that day.
    2. With the labeling bill having been passed here in CT recently, the best way for us to support labeling efforts in other states is to visit their sites and follow their suggestions for influencing each state’s legislators. And don’t worry, we have not stopped fighting this battle, we will be gearing up energy for the Oct. 12 March Against Monsanto that will target the corporation specifically. Activate CT will begin organizing that march in the near future.
3 . There is a parade event in Madison scheduled for July 4. This one will be in line with what the organizers are trying to implement, we have included a link to that event and encourage you to attend and let your voice be heard on the labeling issue.

    4. Activate CT was created with the goal of inspiring activism on many important issue. In the spirit of that, we want to make you aware of a rally in Hartford on July 6 at 4pm to raise awareness of the NSA spy debacle and drone warfare and to present a united response by Connecticut peace and justice groups to these issues. We will be providing you more information on this event as soon as it is available. Activate CT supports this effort and will be present!
Please let us know if you have any questions or comments about the change or the alternate events.

Statement by the Coalition to End Indefinite Detention:

“This dragnet program is surely one of the largest surveillance efforts ever launched by a democratic government against its own citizens” – Jameel Jaffer, ACLU deputy legal director.

Our civil liberties are under attack! We recently learned that the National Security Agency collects information about every phone call placed in the United States and has direct access to our emails and Internet activities. We, the people, whose rights are at risk, are the most important voice in this debate. Help us get the word out to all Americans who are concerned about their speech and activities being monitored and tracked by the government.
