Food Producers Respond to Moms Across America

On June 8, 2020, Moms Across America and supporters sent 6,434 requests to the top 50 food producers to do a better job than the FDA. On May 18, the USDA announced that they would be allowing GMO food producers to self-determine if their products needed regulation. The USDA also decided they would not be regulating gene editing at all. Then, on May 22, the FDA announced that during the COVID 19 shutdown food producers could, reportedly because of supply chain difficulties, switch out ingredients and not update their labels. The FDA stated that this policy would pertain to ingredients that are less than 2% of the total food product weight but exclude allergens. Similar ingredients such as sunflower oil and canola oil would be acceptable items to be switched.

Watch this eye-opening discussion with dedicated food insider Colleen Kavanagh of Zego's Foods, an allergy friendly food company who is passionate about a safe food supply.

In this discussion we discuss the FDA Failures and What You Can Do.

Objection to Judge Shubb's Ruling on Cancer Warnings and Glyphosate Herbicides

To the Honorable Court Judge William Shubb:

We are writing to express our objection to your recent ruling to prevent cancer warnings on Roundup and glyphosate weed killer. We find your ruling to be unfounded based on available science, dangerous, and shameful to the justice system. Justice was not served and we, as mothers, are outraged that the safety of our families will continue to be compromised. We have children, fathers, mothers and friends who suffer daily from using glyphosate-based herbicides. We have lost loved ones that will never see their grandchildren graduate from high school, will never see them marry, because of the lack of warning that glyphosate herbicides can cause cancer.

Could the COVID Vaccine Cause Autism?

A new study has shown that maternal exposure to high levels of Monsanto/Bayer's glyphosate herbicides caused autism-like symptoms in young male rats. Animal studies are considered highly relevant to the National Institute for Health and the only basis for approval by the EPA.

The new study is groundbreaking as it clearly shows the pathway of how glyphosate causes autism through alterations of the gut microbiota and an increase of soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) enzyme in the brain. When an sEH enzyme inhibitor was administered orally to the pregnant and lactating mother rats, the autism like symptoms were prevented in the offspring.

We have an autism epidemic in America.

1 out of 34 children in some US states have autism. It is expected, if we continue at the current rate, for autism to affect half of our children within a decade.

Open Letter to Food Producers: We Need You to Do a Better Job Than the FDA!

Dear Food Producers,

During the ongoing impacts of the pandemic, economic uncertainty, and unequal access to healthy food, we need more integrity and safety in our food supply, not less. Whenever there are job losses and lack of insurance many families are less likely to call an ambulance or get hospital care during a food allergy reaction, increasing the risk of death.

The recent decision by the USDA to not regulate GMOs, CRISPR, gene editing, or Pharmaceutical and Industrial Chemical Producing (PMPIs) plants are of dire concern to us.

In addition, the FDA’s announcement to allow food companies to switch out food ingredients, even temporarily during the COVID-19 situation, such as sunflower and canola oil, can have immediate, life-threatening, allergenic health effects. Allowing unlabeled ingredients, no matter what they are, destroys the long-term integrity of our food supply, both nationally and internationally.

Our government has failed to regulate the food supply and protect the health of the American people and people around the world. If actions are not taken by food producers, our health, the integrity of our food supply, and international trade relations, will be threatened. We ask for your partnership in rectifying this situation.

This is the time for food producers to do better than the FDA, not only because people will find out who did the right thing, but because it is the right thing to do.

We ask for food producers to make a public statement and respond to Moms Across America by June 19 regarding the following requests and your company's commitments:

Judges Overrule EPA and Ban Dicamba Use in USA

An HISTORIC announcement broke through the angst and tragic news of the past two weeks and gave us all a bit of hope, at least on the side of our food supply.

A panel of three judges overruled the EPA's decision to grant the use of herbicide Dicamba on agricultural crops.

This herbicide that had been increasingly replacing glyphosate in agriculture and has caused millions of dollars of crop damage.

Image of Dicamba claims of crop damage as of 2017. More info on Dicamba here.

The court's decision was that, “The EPA made multiple errors in granting the conditional registrations.”

According to the Guardian, the court found that the EPA “refused to estimate the amount of dicamba damage”, failed to acknowledge that restrictions it placed on the use of the dicamba herbicides would not be followed, and did not acknowledge evidence that the new use of dicamba herbicides would “tear the social fabric of farming communities”.

“Today’s decision is a massive win for farmers and the environment,” said George Kimbrell of the Center for Food Safety, lead counsel in the case. “It is good to be reminded that corporations like Monsanto and the Trump administration cannot escape the rule of law, particularly at a time of crisis like this. Their day of reckoning has arrived.”

The below summary of the situation is from Charles Benbrook, PhD. of Hygeia Analytics

Moms Across America Calls For Bayer to Retire Roundup Weedkiller After
Study Shows Maternal Exposure in Rats Causes Autism Symptoms

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Moms Across America is calling for the removal of Roundup weedkiller from the market after a troubling new study found that maternal exposure to high levels of glyphosate herbicide caused autism symptoms in young male rats.

According to a study from UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and Chiba University Center for Forensic Mental Health of Japan, maternal glyphosate herbicide exposure during pregnancy and lactation caused autism like-behavior and abnormal gut microbiota in male offspring.

“We demand Bayer/Monsanto remove this dangerous product from the U.S. market. Studies continue to show the possible harm associated with its use. It’s disgraceful that the company is banking on continued sales of this product as part of its profit forecast while it is paying out billions for the disease it caused,” said Zen Honeycutt, Mom Across America founder.

USDA Says, "Not Our Job!" To Regulating GMOS

Gifting Private Corporations with Giant GMO Free-For-All

According to the FDA, the “USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) oversees the agricultural and environmental safety of planting and field testing of genetically engineered plants.”

Apparently, according to the recent release of the USDA’s branch APHIS final ruling on the Movement of Certain Genetically Engineered Organisms - 7 CFR Parts 330, 340, and 372, they disagree. The statement “We do not agree,” appears 21 times in the 49 page document, with nearly all of the disagreement directed towards the comments opposing the ruling which essentially allows GMO companies to self determine if their products require regulation. There were 6,150 comments filed; only 25 expressed some support of the ruling.

The APHIS ruling is very clear that their intention is to reduce the GMO regulations, support the market, innovation and lower costs for the GMO developers. Not a word about health or safety.

Here are 13 points that should be of great concern to anyone - consumer or international trade partners alike- who would expect our food to be healthy and safe in America:
