Moms Across America has tested 46 samples of gluten-free foods — including bread, pasta, crackers, snacks, flour, dessert mixes, and chips — for glyphosate/AMPA, 236 pesticides, minerals, and gluten. The results are disturbing and affect at least 20 million people who eat gluten-free food in America.
44 out of 46 samples came back positive for glyphosate. Out of the 237 pesticides tested for, glyphosate was the most prevalent. 21% of samples were positive for glyphosate at levels higher than 10 ppb, the EU threshold for acceptable glyphosate residues. According to Dr. Don Huber of Purdue University, exposure to 0.1 ppb of glyphosate is harmful and should be avoided. 95.6% of samples contained higher than 0.1 ppb of glyphosate.
The highest level of glyphosate in gluten-free food tested was in Banza Chickpea pasta. The level of 2,876.41 ppb was the highest amount in food the lab has recorded. (The original page showed a typo of 2,963; corrected to 2,876.41.)
Only 2 products had no detectable glyphosate: Lesser Evil Popcorn and Edward & Sons Rice Crackers. 2,4-D was the second most prevalent pesticide, found in 25 of 46 samples (54%). King Arthur Gluten Free Flour had 147 ppb of pesticides (highest); Milton's Sea Salt Crackers had 75 ppb (second highest).
4 of 46 samples exceeded the FDA's 20 ppm gluten limit and are legally recallable: Trader Joe's Almost Everything Bagels (269.8 ppm), Made Good Soft Baked Double Chocolate cookies (56.1), Simple Mills almond flour crackers (59.4), and Simple Mills Brownie mix (31.7). 3 additional samples were above GFCO's 10 ppm standard: Jovial spaghetti (10.6), GoMacro berry granola bar (15.9), and Shar pretzels (14.3).
20 million Americans eat gluten-free; 12% of men and 9% of women. 660 million people globally avoid gluten. People with Celiac disease have 2–4× higher rates of coronary artery disease and small bowel cancer.
