Avenger - Moms Across America

Avenger

You, our supporters, have asked Moms Across America about non-toxic solutions for weed management. We've listed our answers on the 10 Alternatives to Roundup page, viewed over 100,000 times! You do NOT want to use glyphosate for many good reasons. So we are happy to share another home, garden, and crop weed killer! The home and garden version (the first image below) is available across nearly all of the United States!

Avenger Weed Killer is a fast-acting, highly effective, non-selective, post-emergence organic herbicide that safely kills weeds, grasses & broadleaves. The active ingredient, d-Limonene (citrus oil), naturally strips away the waxy plant cuticle, causing it to dry up and die.

This OMRI-certified solution comes in two concentrations:

  • Avenger Weed Killer: A backyard gardener's safe solution -  1:6 ratio to water (available in all 50 states.)
  • Avenger Optima AG: A farmer's non-toxic alternative -16:1 ratio to water (not for sale in California.)

INGREDIENTS:

Emulsified d-Limonene (citrus oil) is a natural degreaser found in more than 300 fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices. It is commonly used in soaps, foods, lotions, mouthwash, and perfumes.

When the juice is squeezed from oranges, an oily film remains on top; this oil is primarily composed of d-Limonene. The citrus rind is then squeezed further to remove any remaining oil in the citrus skin, consisting mainly of d-Limonene.

Avenger’s patented Ready to Use (RTU) formula comprises water and d-Limonene. The remaining ingredients are proprietary non-toxic and safe surfactants to help dissolve the d-Limonene (Citrus Oil) in water.

Avenger products DO NOT contain the following ingredients:

  • GMOs
  • Glyphosate
  • Corn gluten
  • Acetic Acid/Clove Oil Combination
  • "Food Grade" 200 Grain
  • Vinegar or 20% Acetic Acid
  • Fatty Acid
  • Salt
  • Any synthetic chemicals

USE:

Avenger’s active ingredient, d-Limonene, is a potent degreasing agent. While it is organic and safe for the environment, it is concentrated, and care has to be taken when handling it. Note: Always read and follow label directions for all products. Information here is not a substitute for directions on the product labels.

Avenger will work under cool (down to 40ºF) and overcast conditions. This allows growers to get an earlier start on weed control, as weeds are generally smaller, more susceptible, and less likely to recover. Faster results will be seen on hot, humid, sunny days.

Pets and children can inhabit sprayed areas as soon as the spray dries. As long as the weed remains wet, children and pets may inadvertently transfer the product to desirable foliage and possibly affect that foliage.

Sprayed areas can be planted within 2-3 hours after application or after the solution dries. Through a half-life process, the product dissipates and turns into CO2 after it has dried.

Do not spray Avenger in the rain or if rain is expected within one hour. It can wash the product off the plant leaf surface, reducing its efficacy and transferring to plants and grasses that you don’t want to kill.

THIRD-PARTY REVIEW:

University and independent testing results prove that Avenger is as effective but faster acting when compared to leading synthetic herbicides, including Glyphosate. Glyphosate typically takes 7 to 14 days to work; Avenger performs much quicker, often seeing results in 1-2 hours.

OMRI independently reviews products used in certified organic production, handling, and processing. A thorough review of products ensures that Avenger complies with USDA organic standards.

EPA registration numbers: Concentrate #82052-1; RTU #82052-3. Avenger® is EPA approved under the label language indicating that all ingredients (active and inert) in a pesticide product and all uses meet the criteria defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program (NOP) Rule

Approved for Use in Organic Gardening – NOP Rule. “FOR ORGANIC GARDENING” is intended to be used where the product is typically for residential use.

Registered material in the Washington State Department of Agriculture’s Organic Food Program (WSDA).

In response to the comments below, as far as price comparisons and usage.
1 gallon of Avenger Concentrate ($80.99) will make 7 gallons which would be $11.57 per gallon.
1 gallon of Optima Ag ($91.79) will make 16 gallons which would be $5.73 per gallon.
Avenger products are to be sprayed directly onto the leaves because it is a burndown product therefore sprayed properly will burn down the whole plant.
I appreciate you considering our Avenger products and much more appreciative that you are using a safer alternative for weeding than the products that uses poisonous chemicals.

30% Vinegar also works extremely well. It is non-toxic to the environment, kills weeds quickly and easily (no need to spray on roots; just direct the spray onto the plant and the rest is history), and dissipates quickly. It is also MUCH LESS than the product named above; I was able to buy 4 gallons (1 gal. bottles) as one purchase for $72.
